EN The texts of E.T.A. Hoffmann, who was not only a writer but also a composer, are full of musical images and visual stimuli. Inspired composers to create new works based on the dark and eerie story collection Nachtstücke - which includes the famous Der Sandmann.
Based on this music, visual artist Robin Beer creates projections in real time with small objects cut out of paper, gears or his hands. Projected onto the stage, the images create a play of light and shadow and interact with space and musicians.
Hoffmann's radical imagination sparks unexpected sounds and images. His fixation on sublime love and the mechanical parts of an automaton, visions of butterflies caught in harpsichords and sighs of death, and his indelible obsession with the image of the human eye are omnipresent in the performance.
