CinEast Festival

16th Central and Eastern European Film Festival

During the 16th edition of CinEast, the Central and Eastern European Film Festival in Luxembourg, audiences will enjoy a broad selection of some of the best recent films produced in more than 20 countries of the former Eastern Bloc. In addition to over 110 screenings in cinemas, CinEast will also make an exciting selection of films available online.

Between 5 and 22 October, more than 60 feature films and 40 short films of all genres will be screened in Luxembourg at the Cinémathèque, Neimënster, Ciné Utopia, Kinepolis Kirchberg, Ancien Cinema (Vianden) and other venues in and around the city.

This year the festival presents a Focus on Ukraine with screenings of recent films from and about Ukraine, an evening of Ukrainian documentary short films followed by a discussion, several Ukrainian guests and a concert. The Festival organisers will also collect money for the charity project ‘CinEast4Ukraine’ that aims to help the victims of the war.

The festival’s thematic cycle ‘Adaptations’ will be reflected in an extensive photo exhibition (Neimënster), giving visitors the chance to discover a selection of photographic projects reflecting on transformations our societies and humanity are facing. Various musical events are planned in the festival programme. They include the Opening event with the energetic Ukrainian folk ensemble Yagody (7/10, Melusina), a special show of the Bosnian band Dubioza Kolektiv (13/10, Rockhal), a cinéconcert with the Polish group Czerwie (12/10, Cinématheque), a jazz matinée with Obradovic-Tixier Duo (15/10, Neimënster), a nu-jazz concert with Skalpel (17/10, Neimënster), and the Closing event with the band Al Jawala (20/10, Rotondes).

CinEast 2023 will welcome over 30 special guests who will meet audiences in cinemas during Q&A sessions after selected screenings, and take part in several ciné-debates. Numerous programmes for children and young people are also on the festival menu as well as opportunities to taste some traditional Eastern European food and drinks.
