Can she give birth to a child in the hostile world that lies ahead?

In Chili, the forests are on fire, the glaciers are melting, and violence and inequality are on the increase… Camila is a dancer and chinchinera in Valparaiso and, at 35, she is questioning the reason for giving birth to a child in today’s world.

For if in her womb a desire for a child has awakened, as it does for many young people today, the state of the world operates like an insidious contraceptive.

Camila goes in search of answers from her friends, her family, and her flatmate, even going so far as to take a trip to Patagonia to meet up with an ecologist friend who studies glaciers there, and Veronica, a Mapuche woman who offers her a different perspective on life...

Volcan is a journey from cities of the North to the glaciers of the Deep South, but above all it is the intimate journey of a young woman who dares to ask herself the burning question of the relevance of our continued existence.

Stéfanne Prijot is a Belgian filmmaker and photographer. Through her camera, which she sees as a civic tool, she tackles issues such as human rights, gender, water, education, food, health and climate change, all of which she approaches with the utmost humanism.
